- Encourage students to guess the meaning from the context
- Provide dictionaries or ask them to translate the word if appropriate
- Ask concept-checking questions

Is it regular or irregular? Transitive or intransitive? Is it a verb/noun/adjective or adverb? Encourage students to record this information.
- THE PRONUNCIATION
Ask students to repeat the word, drill the word and mark the stressed syllables. Get them to record the word phonetically.
- THE SPELLING
Make sure students are aware of the differences between the spelling of the word and how it is pronounced.
- THE GRAMMAR PATTERNS IT FOLLOWS
Ask students to examine the word in context to check if it is countable or uncountable, if it has a dependent preposition, or if it is transitive or intransitive.
